NYC Digs: NoLita Brunch

Just a quick NYC local tip for you. As you may know Brunch is a very serious, city-wide sport here in the Big Apple and something I am very very fond of. Breakfast is my favorite meal and I will always favor a birthday brunch over a birthday dinner any day! My roommates and I headed to SoHo Saturday morning to walk around and choose a spot for a wonderful NYC Brunch! We ended up in NoLita (North of Little Italy) and brunched at the NoLita House!

The NoLita House boasts live bluegrass music and 

a free mimosa or bloody mary with your entree...um do you really need more reason?

Anything served in a skillet is guarenteed amazingness...

and I ordered the Vanilla Brandy French Toast. IN.CREDIBLE.

Like I said, a live Bluegrass Band, along with open window terrace seating, 

all makes for the best brunch atmosphere I've had yet!

On Houston between Mott and Mulberry, NoLita House hoasts an amazing NYC Brunch and is definitely one worth checking out!

Savage Beauty: The Exhibit of Alexander McQueen

Spotted, on the steps of The Met, basking in the sun and ready to take in the beauty of her once beloved designer's collection, Blogger Girl is beaming in the beauty of The City in the summer... As promised my darlings, I am reporting back on the phenomenal Alexander McQueen Exhibit at The Met!

Savage Beauty is from start to finish my favorite fashion exhibit thus far. Alexander McQueen was a true visionary, an artist whose medium was clothing. Constantly pulling from all art forms for his fashion shows, he was notorious for Wowing his audience time and time again. Every collection was a complete 180 from the last. He was truly the darling of the fashion world and set the bar high as he ushered us in to the next century of style.

At The Metropolitan Museum of Art, between now and August 7th, you can explore the inner workings of Alexander McQueen up close and personal. I never thought in my life I would get to study his entire collection at one time, in one space...much less at all. But to see all the intricate folds, impeccable tailoring, and even a summary of the background of the collections was so inspiring. These are the things I dreamed of studying in my school classes, I'm so glad I get to study them for fun now!

I seriously cannot impress upon you enough how utterly amazing this exhibit is. If you are in New York this summer you simply must stop by and take it all in. And if you are, let me know!! I will definitely need to be booking time to see this again!

Diary of a NYC Fashion Intern: Sample Sale

The sample sale has been going strong...just like the drinks at its cocktail hour! As a fashion intern, I am generally pulled in many directions. I start the day by fixing up the sample sale room, merchandising, putting back clothes from the dressing room, and fixing the displays.

Here is our Erickson Beamon jewerly, preferred jeweler of Lady Gaga, Rihanna, 

and the First Lady, Michelle Obama! 

 I typically change the outfits on the mannequins every couple days to keep them fresh looking. Its always fun to play dress up with the gorgeous clothes we have in the sample sale. Near the end of the day, I run downstairs and mix the cocktails for our Happy Hour. I layout a nice bar up at the Sample Sale Room entrance and serve our shoppers.

FASHION INTERN MOMENT: 

There are days where I'm pulled on an errand which is normally why I wear flats! One day I got pulled to do 5 errands on the one day I had worn platform wedges...it was not pretty. The errands were all close enough that hopping the Subway wasn't an option but darlings...I was walking for an hour and a half! On my way back to the office a turtle could've beat me there. My feet were in so much pain, that I had to granny walk my way back to 11th avenue! Never again!

Work Hard, Play Hard: USA Networks

I'm hopelessly tired from working 36 hours the last 3 days...on my feet! Work hard, play hard is definitely New York City's motto, BUT at least I was outside, talking to trendy people, and this was my office for the weekend...

So hey, Meatpacking District? I really can't complain! USA Networks is touring an event nationally that started in NYC on short films. Tony & Ridley Scott chose 8 up and coming directors to put together a piece, celebrating the diversity of the American character. The outcome of each piece is really great! Check them out if you have a few, by going to USA Networks Character Project. And BTW my absolute fav from the set was Perfect by Amie Steir, it takes an unexpected turn...that is hilarious!

Blogger Emergency & NYC Digs

So sorry I haven't posted the last couple days darlings, horror of all horrors, Blogger has been down! I wasn't even sure what to do with this Blogger emergency?? I mean, what is a blogger to do without her avenue to share information? I have been quite busy working which has helped for sure! Spoiler Alert:: I have a Diary of a Fashion Intern post coming soon about our awesome Sample Sale going on!

In the meantime, I'm working a Promo Event with the USA Networks: Character Project. Be sure to stop by the Gansevoort Hotel (Note the amazing view of my office the next few days) in The Meatpacking District, to view some great short films produced by some fabulous directors. They are short and super super sweet. See them on location from 10am-10pm Saturday and Sunday...viewings are also at the Flatiron and the South Street Seaport...but those won't have Yours Truly!

Diary of a NYC Fashion Internship

I have been a busy bee working at my fashion internship for our upcoming sample sale! A sample sale consists of the samples that have been pulled by stylists, used in magazine photoshoots, or showcased at press weeks. But after a few seasons, things accumulate and that's when you guys get to cash in.

 It all starts with a crazy room full of samples that have to be brought to some sort of organization. And let me tell you, things get organized and merchandised and then moved and re-organized and re-merchandised like 4 times before it finally finds its home. (For example, this shelf right below no longer looks like this...at all).

The props have been my favorite part of merchandising all the display units, they are all vintage and about fashion, it doesn't get much better!

The sample sale room has jumped leaps and bounds by now, and walking into the showroom yesterday felt wonderful, like a real Chelsea boutique should look. As the final tweaks are made I'm hoping you fashionistas are making your plans to attend this amazing sample sale yourself SPOILER ALERT: there will be huge discounts on Charlotte Ronson, ISSA, Tony Cohen and more! This will be the first sample sale I have ever been to, and thanks to my fashion internship, also prepared by me as well. Very cool!

Fashionspiration: Easter Sunday Fashion

Mes cheris I had the greatest Easter Sunday, chocked  full of adventures, and my Easter Sunday Fashion was decided the morning of, and shaped up for a home run. Early morning the roomies and I grabbed a delish breakfast at Alice's Tea Cup...a.mazing! I ordered the Eggs Benny with smoked salmon on a buttermilk scone and oh wow it was divine. Not to mention the pumpkin scone I had later with leftovers!

After Breakfast, we walked in Central Park and enjoyed a leisurely stroll in beautiful warm weather. We danced around Bethesda Fountain, one of my favorite NYC spots, took lots of pictures...and probably blended in with the tourists...except for the cute outfits and heels.

Layered racerback tanks from Target and Buffalo Exhange started my Easter Sunday fashion. Buffalo Exchange also provided the finds for the sling purse and the cute Steve Madden platforms. The circle skirt I made myself with upcycled 70's fabric.

Although not totally bursting with color, I did make sure to pop some pastel into my outfit for a nod to traditional Easter Sunday fashion. It turned out to mimic the sky which did not stay this overcast all day. It actually shined brightly enough to give me a good dosage of color after laying out on my terrace when we got home.

I had no idea until writing this blog post that Buffalo Exchange had furnished 70% of my outfit! I am obsessed with this store filled with fashionable goodies from vintage to designer (and so much fun for those into the thrill of the hunt)!

After a fun filled day, I attended a wonderful and moving Easter Sunday service at my church. Then explored different areas of New York after, from Union Square to my neighborhood, the Upper West Side! I love that I live in a city where the day can take me any and everywhere!

NYC Digs: Gallery Opening

From years of being a die hard Sex & The City fan, there are many things on my NYC Bucket List a la Carrie Bradshaw and the gang. It occurred to me a few weeks back that I have yet to attend a New York Gallery Opening. After meeting a new friend who works for the Susan Inglett Gallery in Chelsea, I learned they had a gallery opening coming up, so I immediately made plans to check it out!

Although much more artsy then the TV glam of SATC, I still had a really great time! I hope you enjoy the pop art inspiration from artist Hope Gangloff!

Fashion 101: Our Stylish Ancestors

A recent trip to Ellis Island had me overflowing with historic inspiration... As you may know fashion history (like fashion present) is something I really love. Something I always take away from museums and historic sites are the costumes of all the different places and times. The patterns, the colors, the culture of each time period that dictated the dress. It is so fascinating.

I can't even imagine the hope Lady Liberty must've given after being on a boat, miserable, forever, to finally feel free to live the life you dream. Walking these halls was awe inspiring. Most Americans can trace their lineage back to family that came through Ellis Island to settle here. I am one of them. Part Norwegian and part Irish I have many family members that checked in...and I was even able to find their names!

I've always loved vintage luggage, the main lobby is the room where all the belongings of the immigrants would be setting while they registered their families in the country. 

The few clothing displayed in the museum is what really got me. Attention Upper East Siders looks like your boots borrowed the fabulous style of 1906 Bohemia... good to know there's a little Cinderella in every walk down the runway. And how chic is this doctor's bag this woman is sporting? I really am on the hunt for one myself, it is my favorite closure for a bag... a bit hard to find since its not a fad right now.

NYC Digs: Big Apple Lady

There are an unending amount of things you can dive into in this wonderful city at any time of year... but Christmas gives everything a magical spin. Twinkling streets that sing joyful music to you as you skip along 5th Ave in your button up Balmain Boots! But with so many options, how is a fashionista to decide?

You can start by leaving Manhattan for a smaller island dedicated to one lady that has had her share of dazzling magazine spreads over the years... Lady Liberty! Long before the ladies of Sex and the City, Our Lady has touched people with her independent spirit... not to mention her classic Greek fashion (that she always knew was stylish).

It is inspiring to see that New York never lost its zeitgeist as the place to go to make your dreams come true. I found 3 of my ancestors listed at Ellis Island signing in for the American Dream after a haul from Norway! But we'll dive more into the gateway to America soon enough, for now lets visit Liberty Island.

Liberty is full of history and things to explore literally! The museum sits inside our statue! But word to the wise when planning to rendez vous with this Lady... plan ahead! To tour all the way up to the crown (which is of course the raison d'etre to visit her) you must BOOK IN ADVANCE! This lady's fabulous headpiece is booked months in advance... she's like the next hot restaurant in Manhattan... no exceptions!

How to be fabulous for Our Lady? Easy for a snappy dresser like yourself right?! Climb those stairs in style with some comfy flat boots with a fancy flair like these Chloe Cutout Boots. Fight those harsh Hudson winds in something ultra warm and soft like this Karl Donaghue. And of course la meme chose pour ta tete! Try this Diane von Furstenburg beret bien sur!

NYC Digs: Christmas is Chocolate!

Christmas in NYC is the most magical time of year, beautiful window shopping, ice skating, and Christmas music heard near and far. Well this past weekend was no exception, as Santas of all shapes and sizes filled the city streets full of booze aided holiday cheer for Santacon! I personally love the girl's santa costume that both these ladies are sporting for the event. It's always fun to make the holidays fashionably festive!

After much exploring the past couple weeks a friend and I ventured upon this lovely chocolate shop at Bryant Park. Lily O'Briens Chocolate Cafe lured me in with promises of Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate... and they did not disappoint! I just love here how they've decorated the store for Christmas using their chocolates as ornaments.

This chocolat chaud was of course after a dazzling whirl around the Bryant Park Ice Rink! Nothing beats ice skating in New York, its always one of my favorite things to look forward to. Bundled in a winter white pea coat and catwalk worthy trapper hat you begin to feel like you are starring in your own holiday chic flic... now where is that prince charming?
