Funny Fashion Friday

As much as I love fashion...and I mean REALLY LOOOOVE fashion, sometimes I do catch myself laughing out loud at some of the funny fashion that wind up on the racks or in the glossy spreads..ahem fun fur! I am a big believer in never taking oneself too seriously, life is meant to be enjoyed n'est-ce pas? This is one of the reasons I am a die hard groupie of Miss Leandra and her Man Repeller blog, anyone who has such a stellar sense of humor about fashion and can still embrace it all the more I tip my hat too...and add in a dramatic curtsy!

Today I got a big kick out of Jenine's post on the funny fashion of Gaga boots over at The Coveted!
It picked up my Friday and I wanted to spread the love...so enjoy her attempt at walking in these crazy heels and head on over to her lovely blog and be sure to say hello!

So what is your vote?
Will you be sporting this funny fashion?

SUMMER FUN

Edited by Jessie Thorpe of Denimology
Summer is here and it's very exciting to see the change in everyone's wardrobe and more pop of color. Inspiration roams the streets at every corner! It's hypnotizing. It's hard to keep money in my pocket... I'm sure many of you can relate. Besides what I observe outside, Fashion blogs are a key influence to my style. Bloggers constantly make me smile from ear to ear and from season to season as I watch them transform.
I'm looking forward to flowing dresses, ripped up shorts, hot bright colors, basic tanks, bold accessories, This list might go on forever. Below you'll find a lot of food for thought.

    Tipped Off

Edited by Meghan Donovan at WIT & Whimsy

This  week's Links a La Mode demonstrates the one thing we fashion bloggers  aren't afraid to do. Give advice. With all the shopping, hunting,  reading and networking we do across a multitude of channels, it's no  surprise that we develop certain skills when it comes to finding the  best bargain, tracking down the ultimate vintage find or just knowing  how to dress for our body type. Read up on all of this week's posts  featured in Links a la Mode for a wealth of information for everything  from dos and dont's to curbing those nasty little shopping habits we all  can be guilty of here and there.

    More than Meets the Eye

Edited by Fajr Muhammad at Stylish Thought

When  you visit a fashion blog you often see a stylish blogger posing in a  perfectly, put together outfit with gorgeous scenery. What you don't see  is the work that goes into curating and maintaining a fashion blog. This  week the theme across IFB was outfit posts: what deems an outfit  worthy, what goes into creating a stunning visual post and ultimately  the comments (some not so nice) that we receive as style bloggers.  Ultimately, blogging is a way to express our love for fashion and  personal style but as this week's links can attest to, there is much more  to fashion blogging than meets the eye.

    Operation #Uplift

Edited by Vahni of Grit & Glamour

Oh  no. It's The-Coveted-gate all over again. As much as I wish I could  start this week's roundup with a glowing review of positivity, the sad  truth is that the blogosphere is rife with accusations of trademark  infringement, side-eye, competition, and bitchiness. Ladies and gents,  it is time for this to stop.

I'll never understand why people  feel the need to tear others down, or pass another's content—or  identity—off as their own. Blogging dynamo Cece of LoveBrownSugar noted this week that she's had enough of the side-eye in fashion, and  frankly, so have I. Last week, Cece issued an #Uplift Challenge: Find at  least one female you don't know personally and tell her something that  makes her feel beautiful. Don't get "#Uplift"? Be sure to read Beautifully Invisible's post—a Twitterless blogger is like Lady Gaga without a mic!

As you explore this week's list and head into the weekend, I leave you with this thought: "Women with wings," Sacramento, of Mis Papelicos,  wrote, "use their wings not only to fly, but to cuddle, to shelter, to  back, to push and to hug." What are you using your wings for?

    Fashion: Forever Evolving

Edited by Collette Osuna of Statements in Fashion

Hello everyone! I'm super excited to be making my debut as an IFB Links a la Mode Editor this week. As I visited each link, I was reminded that each had the exact thing in common with the next, that Fashion is Forever Evolving.

From  your Mothers fashion advice, a beauty "how to" video, or a legendary  icons passing, fashion is always changing and taking form in a new  shape. I am constantly thriving to acquaint myself with the "fashion unfamiliar." This weeks links did just that for me. I'm thrilled to be a new member of the IFB family and cannot wait to see everyone's posts throughout the upcoming year!

Blogging has Heart: Support Japan through Tragedy

The tragedy that has unfolded day after day in Japan has been unbelievable. As bloggers, everyday we set out to share a little of what we love with the world; forming friendships and discovering so much along the way. Blogging is a community that is driven by heart...not faceless corporations with agendas but real people with compassion.

Hearing of the tragedy in Japan was overwhelming, how do you even begin to make a difference for people so far away that need so much? I was so uplifted to see the blogging community reach out with their hearts the way they did. Friday, March 18th was a Blogger's Day of Silence in an effort to raise money for Japan.

    Pourquoi Pas?

Why not have a Blog Feature mes cheries? Well here you go! I was so honored to be asked by the people of 24Blogazine on What to Wear for Spring...so hop on over and get your wardrobe Spring Fashion Ready!

    Photographer: Truc Nguyen

What will you be wearing this Spring?

    Rather Interesting Event Experience
On a side note my darlings...not every event I go to is glamorous and amiable...this past weekend I attended a Trunk Show that I received an invitation to for Chloe & Reese.

Now let me sidebar to tell you I am a FIRM believer in never being "too big for your britches" for those of you not from the South, that means you should never act bigger than you are. I don't believe anyone, no matter how famous or what high end industry you work in, is EVER above being a decent human being. The unfortunate thing in NYC is it tends to attract many 'nobodies' that think they're 'somebodies' and feel the need to exert that on everyone else. You are NEVER above decent manners, people are people, and you should always treat them with your respect and attention. Case in point: Charlie Sheen and John Galliano... you are not above human decency no matter who you are.

So I arrive at the Chloe & Reese event expecting to learn about the line, mingle with the attendees and snap some photos for you. Boy was I wrong. I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman when the Sales Lady on Rodeo Drive would not help her. These women running the event were like and who are you? And I happily told them I'm a blogger, and I received the invitation and was excited to learn more about the line. And the conversation proceeded to go like this...

Snooty Staff Girl: Oh no no no this is not a press event, this is a closed private event.
Me: Oh I'm sorry, I'm just always asked to cover events, so when I received the invitation I assumed it was OK.
Snooty Staff Girl: Hmm well this is a private "undergound" event and the people here know the designer personally, I'm not really sure how you got the invitation but this is not an event we are publicizing.
Me: um...OK well I just thought I would do a feature on the line, the invitation never mentioned any restrictions.

...and after browsing around the room at the pieces for a few minutes and generally being ignored, I grabbed my coat and left...awkward.

My fabulous blogger friend Nubia of Nubia's Nonsense had an even worse experience than me with this group of women be sure to check out her story HERE. I was appalled that they would allow such an image to extend from this brand, I am a marketing professional in my career and this behavior is NOT acceptable for brand management.
So just an FYI to all of you about the line Chloe & Reese. Beware.

    Making it Your Own

Edited by Vahni of Grit & Glamour

Wow...I'm  a Links à la Mode editor...can you believe it?! So thrilled to have the  opportunity to discover new blogs and compelling posts to share with  all of you. That said, give me two minutes in the pulpit, and my "better  blog" sermon starts welling up, totally involuntarily. So allow me a  moment to share what I am looking for when I review submissions. It's  pretty simple: Be creative and original, tie your post into beauty or  fashion, use proper grammar and punctuation (spellcheck and proofread  before publishing), and credit your photo sources. Always.

And  on to the list...bloggers were in deep thought this week, pondering  ethical fashion and feminism, male gaze and Marthettes. But in case you  need to escape the heavy stuff, there is: denim! Happy reading, and as  you peruse and comment on this week's posts, why stop there? For every  comment you leave, why not check out the blog of the person who  commented above you and comment there too? It's a great way to expand  your mind—and your readership.

    Edited by WIT & Whimsy

One of the best parts about fashion is that it is translated differently by everyone.  It’s infused in everything we do in many respects and this week’s Links a la Mode highlight that whether your style is haute couture or vintage, trendy or thirfted, style is very much ownable and deeply personal.

I’m thrilled to have this be my inaugural editing of the IFB Links a la Mode, looking forward to seeing everyone’s posts throughout the year!

    So long, farewell

Edited by Thom of The Sunday Best

Here  we are, face to face, a couple of silver spoons. My run as an editor  for this venerable list is coming to a close, and as it does I'd like to  take a moment to reflect on what makes the internet such an awesome  place. Ahem. It's you. Yes, you! I don't get to read as much online as I  once did, and this list kept me in touch with the, dare I say it,  zeitgeist of style writing. I was often amazed at the diversity of  topics you writers were willing to tackle. Keep those keyboards  clacking, stay strong, and be good to the incoming editors. We are only  human.

    Thomas...out.

    Blogger Award!

I received a very lovely Blogger Award last week from the fabulous Kori over at Blonde Episodes! Thank you very much Kori, it was so sweet of you to bestow this fab award. As per Kori's request, here are my answers to the blogger award questions...

    1. What inspires you?
Everything under the sun. People watching. Old Hollywood Movies. Wrought Iron Fences. European Architecture. Snow. Sunshine. Dance. And the never ending inspiration from my home...New York City.

    {merci weheartit}

    2. What is your favorite season and why?
Autumn. (Although not far behind is Summer) Because the gorgeous rich oranges, reds, and yellows are intoxicating, the weather is just perfect for strolling. And I get to start wearing my favorite ensembles with my fabulous boots before it gets to cold to cover them up with coats everyday.

    3. What are you most looking forward to this year?
New York Fashion Week at Lincoln Center...Less than 10 blocks from my apartment!

    4. If you could write a book about anything, what would you write about?
Funny you should ask...I actually am beginning to conceptualize the book I DO want to write! I want to write a fiction book about a modern day twenty something woman, and I'd also like to publish a travel/photography coffee table book with my work in it.

    {merci weheartit}

    5. What is your greatest passion?
Traveling!! I can't ever get enough adventure! I feed off of new places to see, and document through my camera lens. As I'm on a trip I'm already taking notes on where I can go next. Travel fuels the inspiration for every aspect of my life, I just love learning new cultures.

    6. If you could change one thing about your life or yourself what would it be and why?
Hmm. My life is getting pretty close to what I want as of now already which is a nice feeling. I would say landing my dream job in marketing in the Fashion industry.

    7. Lastly, what is your favorite novel?
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I could read about Mr.Darcy over and over and over again!

So now I will be passing the torch on to some other deserving bloggers myself! These are all some new finds of mine that I loved discovering and hope you will too!

    Revamping in High Gear

I would like to personally thank you all for hangin' in there as I have needed so much time for transition. I am literally giddy every time I think about all the places I want to take The Embellished Life and cannot wait to set foot on this next leg of the adventure.

Blogging is very fulfilling to me. It allows me an opportunity to interact with wonderful writers, artisans, and fashionistas from all over the world and at the same time it gives me an outlet for my many passions. The fact that I get to write (which I love) about fashion and travel (which I'm obsessed with) and share beautiful things with you everyday warms my heart!

I have high hopes for The Embellished Life and cannot wait to see how the next year blossoms. But I know what I want...what I want to know is what you want to see from me?! How else do you want to be inspired to embellish your life? Here is your time to have your voice heard!

Please send me great vibes at ideas!
Pitch me your art, your shop, your fashionable ways!
Do you have a Travel Confession? Fashionspiration?

Life is beautiful when we are all in it together.

I look forward to hearing from you!

    embrace being unique.

    Bloggers at Magnolia

I have loved meeting up with friends now that I live somewhere new. On Saturday I got to relax and chat with a very good Blogger friend, Janet! Writer of the wonderful blog Designing Mazorie.

We met for a coffee and delish cupcakes at the ever popular Magnolia Bakery on the Upper West Side. She is such a doll and knows her style for sure! We chatted about all facets of NYC life and work and I got a sneak peak at her latest venture! As a freelance jewelry artist she already makes a living doing fabulous work but these rings she showed me were fresh off the press and fantastic!

I got Pumpkin and Snikerdoodle...and the Pumpkin is TO DIE FOR!

Be sure to check out Janet's blog here... and tell me... her rings are amazing aren't they!?!
