Savage Beauty: The Exhibit of Alexander McQueen

Spotted, on the steps of The Met, basking in the sun and ready to take in the beauty of her once beloved designer's collection, Blogger Girl is beaming in the beauty of The City in the summer... As promised my darlings, I am reporting back on the phenomenal Alexander McQueen Exhibit at The Met!

Savage Beauty is from start to finish my favorite fashion exhibit thus far. Alexander McQueen was a true visionary, an artist whose medium was clothing. Constantly pulling from all art forms for his fashion shows, he was notorious for Wowing his audience time and time again. Every collection was a complete 180 from the last. He was truly the darling of the fashion world and set the bar high as he ushered us in to the next century of style.

At The Metropolitan Museum of Art, between now and August 7th, you can explore the inner workings of Alexander McQueen up close and personal. I never thought in my life I would get to study his entire collection at one time, in one space...much less at all. But to see all the intricate folds, impeccable tailoring, and even a summary of the background of the collections was so inspiring. These are the things I dreamed of studying in my school classes, I'm so glad I get to study them for fun now!

Diary of a NYC Fashion Intern: Charity Event

As you lovelies may know, I live for events. It is what I want to do in fashion and therefore I always love scoping out new ones, and seeing what new ideas are being used. For my fashion internship I got to help out on a charity event night we hosted for the kick off to our sample sale! 

I handled the food and bar as well as mingling with the guests and inviting them to join our email list for our boutique Beyond 7 (where the food and beverages for the party were).

Any party is not complete without cupcakes. These are minis from Crumbs and although they were not Magnolia...they were still pretty great!

The night's proceeds went to the SFK Success for Kids group, it was a very successful charity event!

This was the best day I'd had so far on my internship, I was totally in my element.

Diary of a NYC Fashion Intern: Sample Sale

The sample sale has been going strong...just like the drinks at its cocktail hour! As a fashion intern, I am generally pulled in many directions. I start the day by fixing up the sample sale room, merchandising, putting back clothes from the dressing room, and fixing the displays.

Here is our Erickson Beamon jewerly, preferred jeweler of Lady Gaga, Rihanna, 

and the First Lady, Michelle Obama! 

 I typically change the outfits on the mannequins every couple days to keep them fresh looking. Its always fun to play dress up with the gorgeous clothes we have in the sample sale. Near the end of the day, I run downstairs and mix the cocktails for our Happy Hour. I layout a nice bar up at the Sample Sale Room entrance and serve our shoppers.

FASHION INTERN MOMENT: 

There are days where I'm pulled on an errand which is normally why I wear flats! One day I got pulled to do 5 errands on the one day I had worn platform wedges...it was not pretty. The errands were all close enough that hopping the Subway wasn't an option but darlings...I was walking for an hour and a half! On my way back to the office a turtle could've beat me there. My feet were in so much pain, that I had to granny walk my way back to 11th avenue! Never again!

Work Hard, Play Hard: USA Networks

I'm hopelessly tired from working 36 hours the last 3 days...on my feet! Work hard, play hard is definitely New York City's motto, BUT at least I was outside, talking to trendy people, and this was my office for the weekend...

So hey, Meatpacking District? I really can't complain! USA Networks is touring an event nationally that started in NYC on short films. Tony & Ridley Scott chose 8 up and coming directors to put together a piece, celebrating the diversity of the American character. The outcome of each piece is really great! Check them out if you have a few, by going to USA Networks Character Project. And BTW my absolute fav from the set was Perfect by Amie Steir, it takes an unexpected turn...that is hilarious!

Diary of a NYC Fashion Internship

I have been a busy bee working at my fashion internship for our upcoming sample sale! A sample sale consists of the samples that have been pulled by stylists, used in magazine photoshoots, or showcased at press weeks. But after a few seasons, things accumulate and that's when you guys get to cash in.

 It all starts with a crazy room full of samples that have to be brought to some sort of organization. And let me tell you, things get organized and merchandised and then moved and re-organized and re-merchandised like 4 times before it finally finds its home. (For example, this shelf right below no longer looks like this...at all).

The props have been my favorite part of merchandising all the display units, they are all vintage and about fashion, it doesn't get much better!

The sample sale room has jumped leaps and bounds by now, and walking into the showroom yesterday felt wonderful, like a real Chelsea boutique should look. As the final tweaks are made I'm hoping you fashionistas are making your plans to attend this amazing sample sale yourself SPOILER ALERT: there will be huge discounts on Charlotte Ronson, ISSA, Tony Cohen and more! This will be the first sample sale I have ever been to, and thanks to my fashion internship, also prepared by me as well. Very cool!

The Royal Wedding: Live from Times Square NYC

Well darlings, my alarm went off quite early this morning but it was totally worth it, as I got to watch The Royal Wedding of William and Catherine, Live from Times Square NYC!! Not usually a morning person, it did take some thought before deciding that getting to Times Square at 5am would be worth it, but after all it has been 29 years since the last royal wedding (and I did not get to see that one). After months of designer speculation on Women's Wear Daily, I was excited to see that Alexander McQueen (my favorite) was the chosen designer for the royal wedding gown!

I watched the royal wedding, live in Times Square NYC in the VIP tent of TLC Network! Full of English tea, scones, and beautiful modern Brit decor, the VIP tent was a nice atmosphere to view the royal wedding for such an early time in the morning.

The dress, designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, was reminiscent of Grace Kelly's wedding dress when she became Princess Grace of Monaco. Although the custom lace design remained very reminiscent of McQueen's signature prints, the dress was most definitely toned down from the normal avant-garde look of the line, but I believe this had a lot to do with Kate's simplistic, classic style.

My favorite moment of the royal wedding was when Kate began walking down the aisle and you can see Prince Harry take a peak of her and tell Prince William how she looks. It was such an intimate brotherly moment that was so nice to witness.

After the royal wedding, TLC's Say Yes to the Dress performed 3 live weddings as well as a fashion show with the past brides of the show in Times Square. Oh and the lovely Colbie Caillat performed! It was certainly a memorable way to experience the royal wedding. And now my dears, this fashionista is off to catch up on some zzz's, enjoy your royally enchanted day!

An Irish New York: Happy St. Patrick's Day

I'm off to view the St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York today...maybe grab a green beer and generally enjoy the finer things in life. I love the Irish and I love that I am part Irish...even if only by ancestry!

Onassis Clothing: A Mens SoHo Boutique Event

SoHo is one of my crush neighborhoods of NYC, very quaint, and filled with adorable boutiques...whether I can afford the things in every store is a different question. There is one new SoHo men's boutique, Onassis Clothing, that carries a yacht chic line of Men's clothing that is classic Americana at its finest. I cabbed over to Onassis Clothing with a friend around Fashion Week for an event...Gentlemen's Night Out!

The store front to Onassis reads exactly what the clothing line is, so when you walk in the shop and are greeted with old boat paddles, and buoys amongst the clothing displays and even boats as shelving units you are in no way surprised. The clothing is casual and refined, and I saw a couple boyfriend sweaters that I wouldn't mind adopting for myself!

The event was very fun and proved to be very gentlemanly with cuts and shaves planned in the back room where there is normally a cafe. This SoHo men's boutique has set quite the precedent for New York shoppers! I can't wait to see what their next event holds!

Fall 2011 Fashion Presentation: Yoana Baraschi

This Fall 2011 Fashion Week in New York was an array of beauty as always, although this season I particularly enjoyed seeing color on the runway! The fashion presentation of Yoana Barachi was in the round and made you feel involved in the show. 

The difference between a fashion show and fashion presentation is a fashion show is your typical catwalk style parading of models, whereas a fashion presentation is more intimate. It can have the models posed or walking, but either way they reside in the center surrounded by the audience. From a photography standpoint I really enjoyed the presentations because the models typically look straight in your lens and you have the opportunity to get some great detail shots. 

A note from Yoana Baraschi:

Fall 2011 takes us on an emotional journey thru Virtualand, a familiar place in our dreams and on our computer screens. Here Faux Reality reins and transports us in a cinematic domain where 70's excess glam divas morph into virtual modern heroines. 

The beauty for Yoana Baraschi's line consisted of sleek-backed knotty buns, pale lips, and bold fuscia eyes!

The combination was simple yet fierce. 

It's like the 40's just jumped into New York Fashion Week, I love this dress!

The detailing by Yoana Baraschi was incredible, I lingered by each model enthralled in the mix of textures, layers, and embellishments!

Baraschi played pushed the limit with layers of textures and prints from reptile to polka dots. Voluptuous furs and knits mixed with sleek leathers further contrasted the juxtaposed striped and flora printed blouses and dresses. The perfect blend of classic and funky this Fall 2011 fashion presentation was a definite success.

Toni Francesc: Fashion Show and After Party

As I have escaped my Fashion Show daze and am doing my best to space out the shows for you, I don't want you to feel overwhelmed with the amazingness that was NYFW! After attending the Lincoln Center fashion show of Toni Francesc and then the fabulous After Party, I must say I had a ball!

Beautifully made clothing draped the runway for the fashion show, 

and then a lack there of...graced the after party!

This model's hair is breathtaking, she reminds me of a siren.

There were lots of beautiful Garnet silks used in Toni's line. 

This was my favorite jacket in the collection! 

I love pumpkin in Fall...wearing it, eating it, decorting it...doesn't matter. And this backless shirt/pants combo was to die for. Backless is my favorite surprise to pull...i.e. I need a shirt like this!

After a wonderful bow by the designer, Mr. Toni Francesc, my friend and I returned home to change for the after party downtown. 

Sometimes, you just know you're in New York City...but hey at least its a live saxophone!

I was sure to say hello Toni Francesc at the after party! I paid respects to his beautiful line, and told him I very much enjoyed it. Overall pretty epic night on the road to my fashion dream!
