Diary of a NYC Fashion Intern: Merchandise the Mannequins!

How is your summer getting along darlings? I must say Summer in New York City is positively smashing, between the Alexander McQueen Exhibit at The Met and Shakespeare in the Park to Brunch at Balthazar how is a girl to choose? Fortunately, NYC is always going and so is the work. As my days as an NYC Fashion Intern come to a close I hope you've enjoyed the sneak peak at the bottom of the ladder.

But sometimes a fashion intern gets a chance to be a bit creative... merchandising the mannequins!

I did some merchandising for the boutique downstairs.
From glam rock to pretty princess, it's always fun to dress up the windows!

This was a white dress, that is now modeled on a guitar stand with...
Yeah, studded chucks...nuff said.

I could not be more in love with this petticoat tutu skirt!

So what are your thoughts on my merchandising skills, not half bad huh?! Too bad its a totally different direction from marketing, it would be a fun side job to merchandise the mannequins all over NYC. Maybe in another life, but this one includes being a NYC Fashion Intern which isn't half bad either :)

Diary of a NYC Fashion Intern: Charity Event

As you lovelies may know, I live for events. It is what I want to do in fashion and therefore I always love scoping out new ones, and seeing what new ideas are being used. For my fashion internship I got to help out on a charity event night we hosted for the kick off to our sample sale!

I handled the food and bar as well as mingling with the guests and inviting them to join our email list for our boutique Beyond 7 (where the food and beverages for the party were).

Any party is not complete without cupcakes. These are minis from Crumbs and although they were not Magnolia...they were still pretty great!

The night's proceeds went to the SFK Success for Kids group, it was a very successful charity event!
This was the best day I'd had so far on my internship, I was totally in my element.

Diary of a NYC Fashion Intern: Sample Sale

The sample sale has been going strong...just like the drinks at its cocktail hour! As a fashion intern, I am generally pulled in many directions. I start the day by fixing up the sample sale room, merchandising, putting back clothes from the dressing room, and fixing the displays.

Here is our Erickson Beamon jewerly, preferred jeweler of Lady Gaga, Rihanna,
and the First Lady, Michelle Obama!

I typically change the outfits on the mannequins every couple days to keep them fresh looking. Its always fun to play dress up with the gorgeous clothes we have in the sample sale. Near the end of the day, I run downstairs and mix the cocktails for our Happy Hour. I layout a nice bar up at the Sample Sale Room entrance and serve our shoppers.

FASHION INTERN MOMENT:
There are days where I'm pulled on an errand which is normally why I wear flats! One day I got pulled to do 5 errands on the one day I had worn platform wedges...it was not pretty. The errands were all close enough that hopping the Subway wasn't an option but darlings...I was walking for an hour and a half! On my way back to the office a turtle could've beat me there. My feet were in so much pain, that I had to granny walk my way back to 11th avenue! Never again!

Our SAMPLE SALE is still going on, but not for long! So be sure to stop by and get some pretty things, for some even prettier prices!

Diary of a NYC Fashion Internship

I have been a busy bee working at my fashion internship for our upcoming sample sale! A sample sale consists of the samples that have been pulled by stylists, used in magazine photoshoots, or showcased at press weeks. But after a few seasons, things accumulate and that's when you guys get to cash in.

It all starts with a crazy room full of samples that have to be brought to some sort of organization. And let me tell you, things get organized and merchandised and then moved and re-organized and re-merchandised like 4 times before it finally finds its home. (For example, this shelf right below no longer looks like this...at all).

The props have been my favorite part of merchandising all the display units, they are all vintage and about fashion, it doesn't get much better!

The sample sale room has jumped leaps and bounds by now, and walking into the showroom yesterday felt wonderful, like a real Chelsea boutique should look. As the final tweaks are made I'm hoping you fashionistas are making your plans to attend this amazing sample sale yourself SPOILER ALERT: there will be huge discounts on Charlotte Ronson, ISSA, Tony Cohen and more! This will be the first sample sale I have ever been to, and thanks to my fashion internship, also prepared by me as well. Very cool!

Diary of a NYC Fashion Internship

I have just finished my first week in my fashion internship at Seventh House PR and mes cheris it is so great to finally be working in my industry! I thought I would start a diary of sorts for my NYC fashion internship experience to give you some industry insight into a world I know you all have running through your hearts and minds. I remember growing up and dreaming of Vogue offices and runway shows, and how I was so desperate hungry for some pertinent industry information...of course at that time I did not have the luxury of blogs and an established internet to make up for the fact that I lived nowhere remotely near a fashion centered city.

Diary of a NYC Fashion Intership Goal: To give you a  peak into the fashion industry and show you what its like to start from the bottom of the ladder in fashion. Its important to know if you are really cut out for the career you dream of, and I want to shed some light behind those fabulous closed doors so you have a little heads up.

Landing the internship: Thanks to Twitter, I was able to tweet my way into an interview with SeventhHouse PR and after it went really well, I was offered the internship which started right away.

What Do You Wear? With a business degree and having worked in a professional office environment for 5 years, the most interesting thing about this interview was the dress. Business 101 will tell you a suit is as essential as air for an interview...but this is fashion. The interview was a group style and some girls jazzed up their suits with color and fashionable accessories (moi!) and some girls were a little more casual and trendy with floppy brimmed hats, blazers with rolled sleeves, and black jeans. Both great options.

Job Responsibilities: For 3 months I will be happily running around town picking up samples from Women's Wear Daily, W Magazine, etc to return to our Seventh House showroom and team. There will also be prep for sample sales, and lots of other things! Not everything is as glamorous as you might think, but I will be here to report on the real side of the industry. Give you some real flavor!

Brands: Seventh House PR represent a broad range of designers from one of my favs, Charlotte Ronson, to eclectic lines like Manish Arora. Above is a dress from my favorite line in the showroom, Charlotte Deane, her dresses are flowy and ethereal, along with many leather pieces that are surprisingly full of movement and softness. Everything with mega amounts of detail.

This is our amazing Seventh House showroom full of beautiful things. I love walking through this room... aaahh

Erickson Beamon jewelry is also run out of Seventh House which is a rock awesome jewelry line, this necklace in particular I totally want to own. They also make ornate chandeliers with studs and diamonds, and chains, oh my! There is such an array of style in our clients lines, it is a great way to be inspired!

More to come from the
Diary of a NYC Fashion Intern,
so stay tuned!
